Aging is All About Self Esteem

Posted on 01 June 2008 by admin

Many of you probably think that aging is something that is just part of the normal life cycle. If your concept of the life cycle is then something like “you’re born, you age and then you die” then it’s not surprizing that this is where you are headed. Although you are likely not alone in believing this I would like to challenge you to take a step back from this belief for a moment.

What I’d like you to try now is to repeat the statement to yourself again once, and as you do try not to listen to the words. Instead listen to how the words make you feel inside. I know that this may sound strange or feel a bit callenging but try it anyway. Alternately you can allow someone else to read it to you as you focus on and listen to the feelings it evokes within you.

So again the statement is:
(A) “You’re born, you age and then you die”.

Now if you are a sensitive individual I can guess that the feelings that emerged with hearing such a statement were not exactly pleasant. For instance did you feel any of the following: saddness, heaviness, frustration, anger, hopelessness, helplessness, a sinking feeling, feeling limited or trapped?

If so, what do you think these feelings are trying to communicate to you about statement(A)? Well, if you consider this long enough, you’ll probably agree that these feelings are suggesting to you that that statement is not good for you i.e. it is toxic to you. Just think about it.

When you eat something that isn’t good for your body how does it react? Not well, right? That reaction is your body telling you “that’s not good for you”! In the same way the feelings you may have had about statement (A) are telling you the same thing about the statement itself.

So you see, your body reacts not only to foods, it also reacts to beliefs that happen to be inside you that are not good for you. A belief is simply a statement that you choose to keep inside of yourself because you think it is going to be useful to you in some way. I’m only guessing that all this may be a new revelation for you. If not, I congratulate you on your wisdom.

Now when you eat something that isn’t good for you, what do you do? Well, you make sure that that food never finds its way back inside you, don’t you? So my next question is: Why have you persisted in keeping statement (A) inside you if it makes you feel so bad? In other words why do you believe statement (A) is useful to you?

Well you might now say something like, “It’s not a question of whether it’s good for me or not, it’s just a fact, I can’t change it”. Well this last statement is another belief, isn’t it? How does it make you feel? Probably the same way statement (A) made you feel, correct?

So are you beginning to see how many “toxic” beliefs you have inside you? By “toxic”, I mean something that makes you feel uncomfortable, uneasy, sick, sad etc.. It’s no wonder you’re body is deteriorating i.e. aging. After all isn’t aging what happens to you when you take something toxic inside yourself and it stays there for a long period and undermines the normal functioning of your body so that it breaks down?

Now that you’ve followed me so far I want to add that the choice to take something toxic into ones’ self is an issue of “Self Esteem”! That is, if you like yourself sufficiently, you are unlikely to choose to take into yourself something that is toxic to you, correct? Whether it’s bad food, cigarettes, toxic chemicals, drugs or beliefs, the effects are the same.

You may even be surprized if I said to you that the latter are probably more toxic than all the others.

What’s interesting about all of this is that you actually “do” have a choice! If you want to know more about how you can exercise this choice you may wish to visit the web site below in my bio.

Exercise The Right Way - The Seated Calf Raise

Posted on 28 May 2008 by admin

Other articles in this series looked at a number of exercises, mainly from the perspective of developing a comprehensive muscle building program. Sometimes we take things for granted, especially when it comes to performing the basic exercises that constitute the core of most bodybuiders’ training regimes.

It is useful, therefore, to describe in detail the processes involved in actually doing these exercises. This will help beginners to start out using the correct techniques before moving on to potentially more dangerous heavy weights. If it also helps more experienced lifters to redress some of the little faults that have almost imperceptibly crept in over the years, all the better.

In this article we’ll take a close look at the seated calf raise.

MUSCLES TARGETED:

soleus

STARTING POSITION

Sit erect on the seat facing the machine.

Position the thighs under the pads and place the balls of the feet on the near edge of the step.
Position the feet and legs parallel to each other with the toes pointing straight ahead.
Allow the heels to hang off below the step.
This is the starting point for each repetition.

UPWARD MOVEMENT

Keep the torso erect and the legs / feet parallel, push up on toes as high as possible.

Push up off the step.

DOWNWARD MOVEMENT

Allow the heels to slowly lower back to the starting position.

Repeat or finish set.

The Importanceof Moisturizing

Posted on 07 May 2008 by admin

The age of your skin has no bearing on whether you should moisturize. Even women in their 20s should us a good moisturizer to keep their skin young and supple for many years, and of course to help stave off those wrinkles.

Dry skin can occur at any age. When your skin is dry it is unable to retain enough moisture. Dry skin results in flaking, red blotchy patches, and it may be itchy. There are many causes of dry skin ranging from cold dry air especially in the winter months, to medication you are taking, to hormones.

Research has also shown that yo-yo dieting can cause severe stretches to skin resulting in lost elasticity. This can cause the face to wrinkle and sag prematurely. Sun tanning is also known for causing premature aging and wrinkling of the skin.

Experts believe the skin is a smart organ that has a memory. That is why some people have crows feet around the eyes from squinting or smile wrinkles from smiling. If the face forms a specific expression over time, the skin remembers and automatically folds to that form. So stop frowning!!

Women are under the misconception that if the skin is dry it need oil. Actually what it needs is water or moisture to rejuvenate it. That's why too much cleaning can do more damage than good. The best time to apply moisturizer is on damp skin. It then traps the moisture between the cream and the skin so it can be absorbed.

The best moisturizer is really dependent on your skin type. There are plenty of products to choose from all claiming to make you look younger. However there is no research available to actually determine which creams work or don't work. There is no question some are better than others but don't believe for a moment that because it cost more it's superior.

The best moisturizers are non-comedogenic, non-greasy and non-irritating formulation that contains a superior system of emollients and natural ingredients to nourish the skin.

So don't wait until your 40 or 50 to start moisturizing. Rather start young and keep those laugh lines and fine wrinkles at bay. Be good to your skin and it will reward you with years of youthful healthy looking skin!

Use Essential Oils and Herbs in a Sitz Bath for Hemorrhoid Relief

Posted on 26 March 2008 by admin

Sitz bath using juniper and lavender oils
If you have swollen hemorrhoids, a sitz bath can help you reduce them and speed your recovery.

Fill a tub with warm or hot water. Use the temperature that will not irritate your hemorrhoids. Fill it so water reaches your hips or stomach, 6-8 inches. Then add 22 drops of juniper and 22 of lavender essential oils into the bath. Stir in the oils with your hand and then sit in the bath with your knee raised for 10-15 minutes three times a day. This position helps to bring more blood into your hemorrhoid area, which brings in more nutrients and helps to pulls out toxic waste.

After 15 minutes, take a shower with water as cold as you can take. After this sitz bath and shower, you can use one of the herbal paste or ointments directly on your hemorrhoids and leave it on over night.

Sitz bath using Shepherd’s Purse
The herb Shepherd’s Purse can be used in sitz bath. This herb is useful in treating hemorrhoids by reducing,

* Internal and external bleeding
* Reducing blood pressure
* Relieving hemorrhoids

* Repairing wounds
* Reducing prolapsed rectum

Here’s how to use it, Place 1 oz of shepherd’s purse in two quarts of distilled water and let it sit for 12 hours. In the morning or evening, boil this mixture for 2-3 minutes and then strain it. Pour the liquid into a sitz tub or into a full bathtub. Stay in the tub for around 20 minutes and do this 2-3 times a day. After the sitz bath take a cold shower to stimulate blood circulation in the hemorrhoid area.

Witch Hazel and a Basin
Prepare a small tub, container or basin that you can sit in and add some warm distilled water. Add 1/4 cup of witch hazel liquid to the water. Sit in the small tub as long as you can and do it as often as you can. This will relieve your hemorrhoids in 3 to 4 days. 0r, you can freeze witch hazel into small ice cube, then wrap them with cheesecloth and press them against your hemorrhoids for 10-15 minutes every hour. This will reduce the pain and swelling of your hemorrhoids. Use the sitz bath only for the time you need to eliminate or get relief from your hemorrhoids.

Remember that using herbs longer than necessary can cause the condition you’re trying to eliminate.
