great! yes, the peroxide is helpful in so many ways during the sprouting process- Sometimes if I grow too much and they sit a little too long they may get a bit of a funk to them. Soak them in water with a capful of Peroxide- they bubble up and after a bit they are better.

@Newyorkeden Very nice sprouts, Seth
I subbed you. And spreaded the message about the peroxide. Now we grow!

@johnny102marvin
that is if you have enough clean water to spare for making food.

Hey Guys- This is seth- the guy in the video- I think I mentioned this before but I just wanted to correct myself- The wheat grass, sunnies and other tray sprouts usually takes about 8 days in the right conditions, with the jar sprouts, they are usually done within 5. Happy sprouting and feel free to check out my you-tube page at NewYorkEden.
Hope your travels are going well Kevin.
Warm regards,
seth

This is a GREAT video! I wish I had the space to do what they are doing!
My sprouts are grown in mason jars but I’m researching sprouting trays.

Thanks for the information on hydrogen peroxide. Sprout SEEDS make a good survival storage food for times of disaster or if the grid ever goes down for a long time: Y3K or Y4K or government breakdown…whatever.

Wow. I’ve never heard of soaking wheat grass seeds in H202 hydrogen peroxide, EM effective microorganisms, ocean minerals ocean grown. Native Seed Search sounds cool.

I sprout organic Red Wheat, I just soak them for 24 hours, leave them in my kitchen windows in mason jars. Then I add them to my organic bread. I heard that makes the bread more nutritious is that true. Seems that the nutrition would be lost in the baking process.

I grow my sprouts in mason jars. Its best to put them in a dark cabinet and lay them on their side. Top with cheesecloth. I rinse them morning, evening, and night. On the fourth morning after I rinse them I put them in the window to get some sun. I never have a problem with mold. I got my initial sprouting instructions from Meghan Telpner. The other part from the package.

Oops—I should have said “as the mushroom tissue grows, it converts the peroxide to water and oxygen”
August 31st, 2010 at 7:44 am
the peroxide method is well known among mycologist ..apparently the mycelium can convert this peroxide to CO2 ..this is a great tool to know if you are having problems with molds competing for the substrate on which the mushrooms will fruit. However the spores of the mushroom will die if exposed to hydrogen peroxide. Its not used to sterilize spore print agar or syringes ….only to sterilize substrates in which Pre-Grown mycelium will colonize. I had no idea sprouts can process it? Thanks!

THANK YOU!! Very informative…we’ve been growing our own sprouts for 20+ years now and we just now learned to use hydrogen peroxide to keep them cleaner. Such variety! We remember really enjoying the meals at the TOL. They’ve got the best operation going. Excellent work, Kevin and AnnMarie.

Thank you so much for this video – it was so interesting!
We sprout in half gallon mason jars. I’ve made plastic inserts for canning rings out of plastic canvas for the lids. We gave one to everyone in our rawfood meetup group..
I would like to vary what I sprout though and this video was so informative to watch – thank you Kevin and AnnMarie!
