More than 50% of all Americans are overweight or obese. These are conditions that contribute to the risks of chronic health conditions. These conditions include high blood pressure, diabetes and coronary heart disease. America’s increasing lack of physical activity has helped make this problem a weighty issue.


There is good news. You can start to do something to put physical activity back into your day. It can begin with something as simple as a walk around the block.


If you are looking for the gold standard of exercises walking is it. It uses nearly 200 muscles, it is safe, inexpensive and it is a fun activity that just about anyone can do.


The benefits of walking include:


* Helps you lose weight and keep the weight off

* Increases your energy level

* It is a great time to be with a companion or to be alone – your choice

* Reduce your level of stress

* Increases your cardio fitness

* Enables you to maintain your current weight

* Reduces your risk of developing serious health problems

Tips To Get Started


Going from doing nothing to starting a walking regime can feel overwhelming. It does not need to be so if you start with some simple techniques. While they may appear basic remember that most folks simply do not participate in any of the following suggestions.


When safe and available use the stairs versus the elevator or escalator. Walking and stair climbing, a fantastic combination.


Take a walk during your lunch hour.


Make your dog happy – take Fido for a walk. No dog? Walk the neighbors dog. You’ll both benefit.


Don’t grab the best space in the parking lot, grab the one farthest from the door then walk. A side benefit of this strategy is less door dings as you will likely have plenty of room to park!


Incorporate a walk into a business discussion. Fresh air may inspire fresh ideas.


March around the room while on the phone, or a least pace.


Walk in place while you are watching TV.


Eat a healthy dinner and then skip the couch. Head out the door for a walk.


Are you a bus or subway commuter? Get off one stop early and walk the rest of the way.


Great family activity: plan a hike or physical outdoor games with your family.


Walk to consult with colleagues in the office versus calling or email.


So plan a walking schedule that includes 30-60 minutes of movement per day to achieve health benefits. Set goals, write those goals down and get moving. Start walking slowly with a 3-5 minute warm-up and then build speed and distance as you feel more comfortable. End each walking session with a 2-3 minute cool-down of slow walking. This cool down allows for your heart rate and blood pressure to gradually return to normal. After your walk is a great time to do some light stretching.

As time goes on people are becoming more and more health conscious. The good news is that, leading a healthy and fit lifestyle does not have to be all that difficult! People often wrongfully assume that staying fit means putting in alot of work. The good news is that is a fable. The truth is that it really takes more effort to make yourself lazy than it does to stay fit. The here article will discuss some of the things you can do to ensure you are leading a healthy lifestyle. It may surprise you how simple it can be.

You’ve probably heard this a hundred times already but one of the most important things to do if you want to be healthy is to eat a nutritious and balanced diet. Scientists and doctors put together a food pyramid for this reason. Follow it. Your body can fight off injury and disease with the help of essential vitamins and nutrients. You’ll want to learn which foods have these minerals in ther. Visit your doctor often. You can’t have a lifestyle that is truly healthy if you never see your doctor. You’ll probably never get a better tip than this when it comes to staying healthy and fit. Seeing your doctor at least once a year (if not twice) will help you stay healthy. In addition to monitoring all your basic vital signs and numbers, this allows you doctors to notice potential threats to your mental and/or physical health. This also makes it possible for early treatment and cures when problems arise.

Cook for yourself. There is no other way for you to be sure of what is in your food. This means that you control what you are eating and aren’t caught unaware eating something you’d never eat in ordinary situations. Even foods claiming to be all natural may have ingredients you don’t want to ingest. You can also make sure you are getting the foods you want to eat and enjoy. It’s not difficult to learn to cook and the more practice you get at cooking, the easier you will find it becomes. After a while you may discover that you really like to cook.

There are numerous ways to maintain your level of health and physical fitness. To accomplish this, simply eat right, exercise on a regular basis, and keep away from foods that don’t serve you the right way.

It’s not difficult to remain healthy. The fact is that there is very little effort involved in leading a healthy lifestyle. All you need to do is make a few simple choices and move around regularly and you should be fine. The fact of the matter is that a healthy lifestyle can actually turn you into a happier person.

The more time passes the more people are becoming aware of the need to be health conscious. It is not hard to maintain a healthy fit lifestyle. Alot of people believe that staying healthy involves working hard. This is not the case. Keeping healthy and fit is actually easier than staying lazy and unhealthy. In this article we will talk about some of the things that you can do to make sure that you lead a healthy lifestyle. The ease of it may just surprise you.

Your first step to healthy fit lifestyles is to change your eating habits and move to nutritious balanced diets. The food pyramid put together by scientists and doctors can help with this. Use it as a food guide. Getting the right amounts of vitamins and nutrients is essential if you want your body to be healthy and resilient to injury and disease. Figure out which foods will give you more of these vitamins and then eat them regularly. Visit your doctor regularly. It’s impossible to be truly healthy if you never see your doctor. You’ll have a hard time finding a better tip for staying healthy and fit than this. You should see your doctor at least once, though twice is strongly encouraged, a year to stay healthy.
